About Us

Mersey Port Health Authority is responsible for protecting public and animal health against threats of disease being introduced from countries outside of the European Union.

The Authority applies a range of International, European and UK Legislation to ships, aircraft and their respective cargoes, crews and passengers.  In particular we deal with imported food and products of animal origin.

Mersey Port Health Authority is responsible for:

  • Imported food checks at the Border Inspection Post at Royal Seaforth Container Terminal;
  • International Health Regulations;
  • International Catering Waste enforcement;
  • Water samples on vessels, aircraft and at port facilities

The Authority is responsible for 53 miles of coastline including the River Mersey, a role we have undertaken since 1875.
