Mersey Port Health Authority will discharge its duties to make the Port of Liverpool the port of choice for the importation of products of animal origin and other foods.

The function of Mersey Port Health Authority is to protect society against threats to public and animal health by applying and enforcing:

  • International,
  • European and
  • National rules and regulations.  

The Authority applies this legislation to ships, aircraft and their respective cargoes, crews and passengers to ensure that:

  • Ships and aircraft are not carrying any vectors of disease, such as rodents or insects
  • Facilities on board are conducive to food safety,
  • Crew and passengers are not suffering from a notifiable illness on arrival and
  • Cargoes do not pose a threat to public or animal health.

All our enforcement activity will be carried out in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and the Enforcement Policy of Mersey Port Health Authority.
